The Clamour for Glamour by Michelle Kaplan

Glamathon2More than 400 of South Florida’s most fun and fashionable turned up to pucker up and give breast cancer a big sloppy kiss goodbye at Glam-A-THON’s seventh annual Lipstick Lounge.

“Over $55,000 was raised,” said Tammy Gail, founder of Glam-A-THON. “All funds raised through Glam-A-THON benefit the Broward Health Foundation, the fundraising arm of Broward Health.”

Broward Health offers lifesaving, early diagnostic testing and mammograms for underinsured and uninsured women in South Florida. Those fighting the deadly disease can receive financial help, transportation, Medebras and other overlooked, yet important lifestyle needs.

The fun-raiser that focused on all things esthetic was a delight for the senses with cocktails and confections to please the palate. Guests sampled offerings from some of South Florida’s best culinary talent including the fabulous Bistro, sponsored by Whole Foods, Big Chef, Café Vico, Grille 401, Truluck’s and Windridge Yacht Charters.

Inside the Fashion Lounge was a little eye candy for the fashion forward from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Crystal 4 U, Initially Speaking and the Wick Theatre & Costume Museum.

“Ladies indulged in the luxury Beauty Bar,” Gail said, “while the gentlemen retreated to the Big Boys Toy Chest to kick back and enjoy their own pampering.”

Girls had fun with beauty makeovers by Fresh Beauty Studio, Jennifer Bradley Cosmetics, Key to Beauty Salon, Michael Bourgeois L.M.T. and Tӧn Vangard. The boys enjoyed samples of Jim Beam, shoe shines and massages.

The fun continued as organizers doled out the new, coveted Glammy Awards.

“The inaugural Glammy Awards were presented to honor South Florida women who serve as community icons through their support and enhancement of the well-being of South Florida residents,” said Gail.

With over-the-top entertainment, even the regular girls could feel like reality superstars as Carl King, a recent contestant from The Bachelorette, handed out roses.

Glam-A-THON has donated $266,000 to the Broward Health Foundation since 2011. Funds raised assist patients being treated at the Lillian S. Wells Women’s Health Center and requiring mammograms through the Lisa Boccard Breast Fund.glamathon
