Spice is nice

From bobbing for apples to carving pumpkins, there is no more hiding the fact that fall is coming. I mean, if I can’t celebrate wearing white pants anymore, I have to have something to look forward to, right? So it’s time to suck it up and trade my flip-flops for frilly scarves and boots. Although I will wear my sandals anytime I please as long as it’s warm enough to go to the beach. You cannot make me give up that Floridian right.

I must admit, however, that I do enjoy the spicy cinnamon and nutmeg smells of the season. I’ve had the pleasure of being introduced to some very season-worthy, lush libations and I’d like to share them with you.

Pumpkin Pie Martini

What you need:

  • ½ oz. vanilla vodka
  • 1 oz. pumpkin spice liqueur
  • ½ oz. Kahlúa
  • ½ oz. butterscotch schnapps
  • ½ oz. half & half (to personalize it, I swap out the half & half for pumpkin spice creamer at the grocery store)
  • Crushed graham crackers
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish
  • Martini shaker & glass

What you do:

  • Pour all liquid ingredients in a shaker. Add ice to the shaker and shake well. Dip martini glass in water or milk and immediately dip in graham crackers to line the rim. Pour liquid from shaker in the glass and add the cinnamon stick to garnish.

Pumpkin Horchata

What you need:

  • 1½ oz. Wild Turkey 101 bourbon
  • 2½ oz. pumpkin horchata (based on Spanish rice milk infused with pumpkin)
  • Ground nutmeg for garnish

What you do:

  • Combine liquid ingredients into a shaker with ice. Strain into a snifter glass.
  • Top with nutmeg and enjoy!

Pumpkin Pie Cocktail

What you need:

  • 1 oz. Pumpkin Spice Kahlúa
  • 1 oz. whipped-cream-flavored vodka
  • 1 Tbsp. pumpkin puree
  • ½ to ¾ cup milk (or try flavored creamer for taste)
  • Pumpkin pie spice for garnish

What you do:

  • Measure liquors, milk, pumpkin puree and a few ice cubes into a martini shaker. Give it a good couple shakes. Don’t worry, the pumpkin puree will dissolve into the drink! Pour into a rocks glass and garnish with a sprinkle with a pinch of the pumpkin pie spice. Enjoy!
