Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. Unlike other holidays, Halloween can be enjoyed several times throughout the month of October. Whether you choose to attend a party or visit one of many local haunted houses, there’s something for people of all ages to enjoy. I happen to think that any time you can shed the normalcy of the everyday grind and transform yourself into a superhero or your favorite villain, it’s bound to be a good time.
For those of us who like to shake things up a bit with a different Halloween experience, the Palm Beach Zoo is a great place to make that happen. That’s because for the past 15 years, the zoo has held “Boo at the Zoo,” an event filled with all kinds of activities to bring out your inner ghost or ghoul. Parents and children can enjoy a wide range of activities, such as: face painting, a haystack hunt, costume contests, or indulge the “artist within” by painting your own pumpkin at the pumpkin patch. You can also enjoy sand art, interactive juggling demonstrations, games and crafts, live music, children’s performances, storytelling, roving animal encounters, Halloween-themed keeper talks, animal enrichments, and of course, trick-or-treating throughout the zoo.
On October 21, Child and Family Connections in conjunction with Children’s Home Society of Florida and the Heart Gallery of Palm Beach County were on hand with a table full of candy and other treats to add little sweetness to the day. Boo at the Zoo takes place over several days in the month of October, giving you a chance to be as many superheroes or villains as you like. Makes me wish Halloween was year-round!
