Laugh it up

The 2014 Last Comic Standing Tour, which kicked off on September 16 in Tucson, AZ, will be stopping by the Kravis Center to tickle Floridians’ funny bones on Nov. 2. The tour is comprised of the last five remaining comics on the most recent season of NBC’s Emmy-nominated talent show Last Comic Standing, which concluded in May.

These five comedians – Rocky LaPorte, Lachlan Patterson, Nikki Carr, Rod Man and Joe Machi – make up a variety of comedic styles. Before you see them on stage, let us give you the skinny on these very funny folks:

Rod Man | Villa Rica, GA |

Currently residing in Los Angeles, CA, Rod Man is best known as the winner of Last Comic Standing 8. Rod, whose fans note his southern charm, wit, and the ability to find the funny in everyday life, has been on stage at Caesar’s Palace, the Gibson and the Apollo, and currently hosts his own YouTube channel, Rod Man TV.

Nikki Carr | The Bronx

NBC writes, “Her trials and tribulations as a woman, mother, grandmother and lesbian have provided rich comic material for Carr, and she’s woven it all into fiercely funny performances. She has been entertaining audiences for 17 years at clubs, colleges and military bases all over the United States and the world, including Iraq, Bagdad, Kuwait, London and Germany.”

Lachlan Patterson | Vancouver |

According to his biography, “Lachlan’s laidback style has given him a unique stage personality that has audiences charmed from beginning to end. When not on the road touring or preparing a set for television, Lachlan records his weekly podcast The Kooks of Komedy in which he talks candidly about his personal life, goals and passion for surfing.” Lachlan has also appeared on Comedy Central’s Tosh.0 and FX’s Legit.

Joe Machi | State College, PA |

Machi decided to try standup and moved to NYC in 2006; soon after, he began his career in late-night comedy at New York’s Comic Strip Live. Over the next six years, Joe went on to win the NY Underground Comedy Festival’s Emerging Comics Contest. Three months later, Joe was a finalist in the New York Comedy Festival’s “NY’s Funniest Person” Competition. Joe has become a staple in New York Comedy clubs and claims that his influences include “everyone he has ever talked to.”

Rocky LaPorte | Chicago |

“With his unmistakable accent and his hilarious yet endearing delivery, [Rocky] is becoming more well-known by the day. His performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno brought him a standing ovation, and he’s been featured on his own Comedy Central Presents special which is currently running on Comedy Central,” his website explains. LaPorte has opened for the likes of, Louie Anderson, Garry Shandling, Drew Carey, Tim Allen, Hootie and the Blowfish and the Righteous Brothers.
