I was able to get an afternoon off after the hustle and bustle of our year-end procedures, and I decided there was no other way to finish up some Christmas shopping than with a family member in the overcrowded stores at the mall. So, I called my mother who “coincidentally” had the day off, and out we went.
After browsing the stores and my spontaneous stop at the car dealership (I get a bug every two years for something new), I took her to one of my favorite swanky places to have a drink and share an appetizer.
Because I’m trying to be festive, I order one of their seasonal martinis. This was notable not only because it was an interesting concoction of ingredients, but also because I was able to step out of my comfort zone and order something “fun.” It was just my luck that a minute later the waiter came back to say the main ingredient was not in stock, so I could either have it with improvised liqueurs or go without.
After minutes of debating, I decided to put my Scrooge-like thoughts behind me and go for it. It was surprisingly delicious, and because they did not have what I ordered originally, also half price.
So the moral of the story is: keep your holiday spirit alive. It will guide you in the right direction, and possibly, save you some cash. Happy holidays!
