I remember my first Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® experience: the majestic elephants, the kooky clowns and my cousin falling over the row of seats in front of us because he wanted to be closer to the acts. Sure, my family and I were in the “nosebleed” section at the South Florida Fairgrounds location – and my cousin was obviously determined to change that and have us watch the circus from the inside of an emergency room (which didn’t actually happen) – but it was still a highlight of my childhood.
Although my circus memory is from about 16 years ago, it’s never too late to make new Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® memories. The Greatest Show On Earth® will be in West Palm Beach for just six days this holiday season.
From Dec. 23-28 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Children of All Ages™ can watch Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents Built To Amaze!® — Holiday Edition, which will feature an aerial casting act, the King Charles Troupe from New York City, as well as crossbow acts and much more.
Ashley Vargas first started with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® four years ago. Once a pre-show host and animal presenter, Vargas will be the target of a crossbow this time around.
“[Being a part of the act] entails being out of your mind,” she said. “No, I’m kidding. You’re getting paid to have a good time, to meet new people from all over the world and to try new things.”
During her act, a Romanian man shoots a crossbow as she holds materials ranging from a sheet of paper in her hands to a balloon in her mouth, she said. To complete his act, he shoots one target that sets off the next one. The very last target shoots an arrow through an apple on top of his head.
“This show is high-energy and jaw-dropping,” she said.
Vargas said her circus experience has been nothing but positive. It’s a great growing experience for people, and she can say she’s been to all 50 states.
“That’s why it’s the greatest show on Earth – because we’re all having a good time,” she said.
