More than 1,500 people and their beloved pets were up for some doggone fun Dec. 8 at the second annual Holiday Pup Crawl at Downtown at the Gardens.
“The event is always a big hit with patrons and businesses at Downtown at the Gardens,” said Laurie V. Steele, event director for Steele the Show PR. “The most popular part of the day is the Fur Baby Holiday Fashion Show by G girl productions that featured more than 20 doggies who strutted in their holiday best.”
The event is not only a great opportunity for pet lovers to discover locally owned businesses, enjoy holiday music and buy holiday gifts for the furriest members of the family, but to learn more about area pet charities, what they do, what they need and how they can get involved – and of course, there were pets available for adoption.
“During the event over 100 pounds of food was donated to the charity on site, Kibblez of Love Pet Food Bank, and two dogs found homes,” said Steele.
Kibblez of Love Pet Food Bank helps more than 350 families each month by donating 50,000 pounds and supplies.
More than 20 vendors that cater to pets of all kinds – dogs, cats, birds and even reptiles – were there to help families spoil them rotten because pet lovers will go to nearly any length to keep them happy.
“I am always amazed at how far people will come for an event,” said Steele. “I spoke with a couple who came all the way from Pompano with their Dachshund, Brownie, so they could get her a birthday and Christmas gift. They told me they are always looking for fun events to take their dog and found the event on Google. While at the event they also picked up a birthday cake box mix to make special cake for Brownie; she is one lucky dog!”
