It’s a Wonderful Life at La Posada

Dining At Posada

Dining At Posada

The residents and associates of La Posada share a gift: their smiles. At this elegant resort community nestled in the heart of Palm Beach Gardens, the pursuit of excellence abounds. Secluded from the bustling white noise of The Gardens Mall and Downtown at the Gardens, by a longer-than-wide lake and a commanding bridge entrance, La Posada is an amenity-laden, independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing enclave that runs with the finest of movements. The skilled and compassionate staff associates deliver unparalleled service, undergirded by a core philosophy that informs their commitment to exceed the expectations of La Posada’s residents. And that has everyone smiling.

“It’s a tremendous honor and a worthy job to make a difference for the lives of residents,” explained Brad Cadiere, La Posada’s executive director. “When I leave at the end of the day, I leave fulfilled.”

Cadiere is celebrating the conclusion of his first year at the helm of La Posada, which coincides with the anniversary of La Posada’s purchase by Kisco Senior Living. Citing Andy Kohlberg, Kisco Senior Living’s founder, president and CEO, CEO, Cadiere explains Kohlberg founded the company with one question in his mind: “If my parents were to live in a retirement community, what would I want it to be like? And how would I want them to be treated?”

As a Kisco Community, La Posada’s employees – who are singularly referred to as associates – adhere to the organization’s credo, which is articulated daily and embossed on the back of Cadiere’s business card. The principles, values and beliefs that guide the associates includes this preamble: “We are committed to exemplary service delivered with integrity, dignity and compassion. Our communities for seniors are distinguished by warm, secure and friendly environments.”

The warmth of La Posada becomes immediately apparent during a stroll about the lush grounds and interior gathering places of the resort. Courtyards with community gardens and quaint seating areas with lake views are sprinkled between seasonal flowers and avocado trees. The outdoor perimeter of the dining room is ringed with tables and chairs for an al-fresco repast. The swimming pool sparkles under a midday sun and the deck is amply furnished with comfortable loungers and umbrellas to shade the erstwhile sunbather. Potted bougainvillea add dashes of color, complementing the muted tones and clear water. The lake stretches like a backwoods stream beneath the verandas and patios of the apartments and villas, attracting graceful waterfowl to its banks, and the fountain within splashes sounds of serenity that echo beneath the bridge.

La Posada’s main entrance opens to a grand reception area, where a chessboard sits atop a carved wooden table surrounded by deeply cushioned winged chairs, seemingly waiting to host a spirited and cerebral competition. Natural light flows through floor-to-ceiling windows, mixing its warmth with the incandescent lamps in the library. Residents read or avail themselves of computer stations. In the living room an iPod broadcasts its offerings through portable speakers when the black player piano is between sets. For those who abjure the cacophony of falling pins and rattling gutter balls and prefer flip-flops to bowling shoes, a regular game of Wii bowling can be had with friends in an alcove television lounge. Columns and arches punctuate the elegance of an expansive dining room where independent-living residents take their meals. Similarly appointed dining rooms serve the assisted-living and skilled-nursing residents. When a resident isn’t swimming or sunning, dining, reading, dancing, playing chess or sitting at the bar for an evening or anytime cocktail, there’s always an engaging speaker on the schedule and health fairs are regularly conducted in meeting rooms. La Posada is a lifestyle and it’s a wellness lifestyle.

“We call it ‘The Art of Living Well,’” Cadiere explained, enumerating the six components of a wellness lifestyle: Emotional, Intellectual, Physical, Social, Spiritual and Vocational. “We bring award-winning speakers here, experts in their field, to speak with our residents.”

“We are very proud of our Five-Star Quality designation, especially coming on the anniversary of our management,” says Kris Berntsen, health care administrator at La Posada. Berntsen is pleased with the top rating from the federal government’s Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The Five-Star Quality designation is the highest conferred and speaks to the overall excellence achieved in specific quality measures, including staffing, clinical services and resident care.

What could be better than La Posada? More La Posada. Kisco Senior living recently announced plans to build approximately 54 assisted-living apartment homes. Studio, one- and two-bedroom configurations will be offered, expanding its current 182 independent-living residences, 11 villas, 30 assisted-living and 18 memory-care apartments, along with 40 private skilled-nursing suites.

“Relax,” said Cadiere, when asked what he desires most for La Posada residents. “Enjoy life with peace of mind and the highest level of service and care.”

That should keep everyone smiling.
